The Government And Unemployment

It’s the first Friday morning, and the new unemployment figures are out, and some of the media analysts are saying it’s good, and some are saying it’s bad.  I guess that depends on what political affiliation said pundit has.

Before going on my rant, let me explain this to the newcomers of this blog: I’m what can best be described as a political atheist.  I think both parties have done a good job at poisoning the well against the average American.  When you have the Speaker of the House telling the Senate Majority Leader something rhyming with go truck yourself, you have problems.  Capitol Hill has become the high school you went to, where the “jocks” are peer pressured into a hatred of the smart kids called “nerds” for no particular reason.

My theory on why the unemployment numbers are so unstable is that the government aggressively goes after those who don’t make income conventionally through jobs the IRS can monitor you with.  As an example, on April 15, 2011, the government went after the two biggest online poker rooms, Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars, simultaneously.  The “G” never had problems with online poker before that, but with the stroke of a pen, all who play poker online became to be treated like criminal elements.

How soon will it be before they go after me for writing E-books?

Moreover, what does it say when a government not only wants to work conventional jobs, but also wants to ensure that encourages you not to make income any other way?  It almost seems to me as if the government, no matter what party controls it, wants you to struggle.

  1. Nice article and thanks for posting it.
The Government also does not take into consideration people who have used up all their benefits so they are removed from the unemployment numbers. This reduces the number for the government on unemployed people as they are no longer entitled to the benefit.
What happens next to the unemployed? Food stamps and state assistance programs if they qualify.
The information does not correlate to the true numbers of unemployed and this has nothing to do with any political party. The media has refused to look at the real numbers and that is why citizen journalists such as yourself need to keep publishing information and getting into the hands of the people.

    Cheers
