Putin The Madman

God bless the crew, passengers, and families onboard MH-17 on July 17, 2014. An accident that should not have happened, and the world should be outraged over it.

It’s high time everyone took Vladimir Putin seriously. He is a madman, as evidenced by the senseless attack on a passenger jet last Thursday. While he himself didn’t pull the trigger or give the order on that SAM missile that hit the plane, it is clear that someone in his aid did. It really doesn’t matter if it occurred in Russia or the Ukraine, or whether the act was carried out by a Russian citizen or a Ukrainian citizen sympathetic to the Russians.

The Russians have blood on their hands. Plain and simple.

Nothing happened back in 1983 when that Korean jet went down at the hands of a Soviet jet fighter. I was in seventh grade at Largo Middle School when that happened, and I remember Ronald Reagan calling it what it was: an act of barbarism. You can almost transpose that speech from 1983 into the events of 2014.

I certainly hope the events of the past week don’t lead to a third World War, but stranger things have happened in our society. The world is watching Mr. Putin, and if he tests the mettle of the rest of the world a few more times, we could get to that point.
