Flashback: “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes

Originally released by Jackie DeShannon in 1974, Los Angeles native Kim Carnes scored her biggest hit in the spring and summer of 1981 with her remake of “Bette Davis Eyes” that went to the top of the Billboard charts for nine non-consecutive weeks in a ten week span.

The song had a five-week run at number one, but was then interrupted by the Stars On 45 Beatles medley for the week of June 20th, 1981. It then re-topped the pop charts until Air Supply’s “The One That You Love” knocked it off for good.

Programming note: unlike the last two years I’ve been doing Flashbacks, the only Christmas themed Flashback will be on Christmas Day.

More stories and takes on the way soon…
