The Tampa Bay Buccaneers induct former quarterback Doug Williams into their Ring of Honor today as they host the Atlanta Falcons.
To me, I cannot help but ask: why didn’t the Bucs do this sooner?
Although he didn’t take the Bucs to the promised land of a Super Bowl, he did take the Washington Redskins there in 1988. He was the first African-American quarterback to win that big game at the end, and win the coveted MVP award for his performance that night in San Diego.
If you have a Mount Rushmore of Bucs players, Doug would be on it, along with Lee Roy Selmon, John Lynch, and Ronde Barber.
Congratulations to Doug and his family. At least now, the Bucs have gotten it right.
