I’m reading this article in the New York Times about how Saudi Arabia is threatening to sell what they own in our country should Congress pass a bill blaming the Saudis for 9/11. Remember, 15 of the 19 hijackers of four US planes on that day were Saudi citizens. The other four came from Lebanon, the UAE, and Egypt.
If you’ve ever seen Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 movie, then you know that this is a big deal. The Saudi’s holdings in our country is estimated to be $750,000,000,000. That kind of sale would be a huge economic blow to us as Americans, making whoever becomes the 45th President in January of next year quite a moot point.
Me, I’d call the Saudi’s bluff. Threats are in themselves deceptions, and I’d think we’d eventually be able to do okay without their assistance. As for the increased chances of terrorism in our country, they can’t kill all of us in one attack. I’d rather be poor and honest as opposed to rich and corrupt.
