As the political divide continues to envelop the country, building up to a crescendo these past two years – Floridians are keeping an eye on soon-to-be Hurricane Michael. It looks like it will miss the Tampa Bay area entirely outside of a bit of rain, but the Florida panhandle won’t be so lucky.
Once one of these tropical systems enter the Gulf of Mexico, if you don’t get a hurricane – someone else will.
This storm reminds me a lot of Opal in 1995, a strengthening hurricane accelerating towards the coast, potentially. A lot of people back then were watching another news event on October 3rd of that year: the first O.J. Simpson trial. Thus, it’s possible the public wasn’t paying a lot of attention as Opal strengthened from a Category 2 to a Category 4 by landfall the following day, October 4th.
If you’re in northern Florida, keep a good eye on this one – he seems to mean business.
