On this evening of the 11th day of March, the coronavirus crisis has hit rarified air.
In the hour after President Trump spoke to the country about the latest developments, there were two bombshell announcements. First, actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson stated on Twitter that they have both tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, in Oklahoma City, a game between the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder was about to start. Moments before it did, the game was halted and then canceled due to Utah’s Rudy Gobert testing positive for the virus. As a result, the NBA immediately suspended games indefinitely, although all other games already underway were allowed to proceed to a conclusion.
At least in the sports world, my feeling is that we will see the most significant disruption of events since the Second World War.
But that’s just the sports world. What happens in the real world going forward? That’s anyone’s guess.
