Jeopardy Masters Jumps The Shark

As you know by now, Victoria Groce from the Pittsburgh area won the second Jeopardy Masters tournament last night (as of this writing). She pulled away from the field in the final game, making the last Final Jeopardy round meaningless.

I wasn’t surprised that ratings were down – four of the six contestants from last year made it to this year’s event.

I felt that Yogesh (who won this year’s Tournament of Champions) and Victoria (won the Jeopardy Invitational) had huge advantages by qualifying more recently.

Much like a team that gets hot late in a regular season in pro sports, it was way easier for Yogesh and Victoria to keep momentum going.

I hope they do a third season, but I think the current format could use a revamp. Maybe 12 contestants to start off with, and expand the semifinals to 6. Get rid of production picks, and make everyone earn their spot.

If ABC doesn’t pick it up, I could see the tournament move to the syndicated show as well.

Congrats to Victoria on a well played tournament run.
