Beware The Two Term President

Oh, those two term Presidents.  They always seem to get themselves ensnared in a scandal of some kind.

President Richard Milhous “Tricky Dick” Nixon gave us Watergate and became the first President to resign due to that scandal in 1974.

Ronald Reagan gave us the Iran-Contra affair and made Oliver North and Fawn Hall household names.

William Jefferson “Slick Willie” Clinton gave us a certain 20-something brunette and was impeached for lying about his conduct with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.  Fortunately for Mr. Clinton, the scandal became a partisan debate and his fellow Democrats were kind enough to spare his rear end in the senate trial that could have forced him out of office.

George W. Bush: what scandal didn’t he have?  I guess his biggest second term problem was his pardon of “Scooter” Libby in that whole Valerie Plame outing and incident.

Now, Barack Obama’s second term hasn’t even begun yet and he’s in a dilly of a pickle over his now former CIA head, David Petraeus.  Turns out Mr. Petraeus had an affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell.  Let’s just say (because I suspect more will play out in the days ahead) that this is turning into a gigantic mess. The question will no doubt be asked soon enough: what did the President know, and when did he know it?

Oh, those two-termers.  Can’t get by without one major scandal in the days of the 24 hour news cycle and the Internet.
